After almost nine hours of growing criticism, Solana took an advertisement that presented a therapy session ridiculing the discussions of the pronoun, which caused a debate about her messages.
Intentionally or not, the Solana Foundation was found in the center of the controversy after publishing, and then quickly eliminating, an announcement that critics said they made fun of gender identity problems. The announcement, which was apparently aimed at promoting the Conference of Solana Accelerate, presented a sketch where “America” attended a therapy session, just to be told to be “concentrated in pronouns” and “present new genres” instead of pursuing technological innovation.

The announcement immediately caused outrage in the cryptographic community. Some saw it as an attempt to align with the cultural rhetoric of the right, while others considered it as an unnecessary political complacent.

“This is so fucking deaf,” be O'Connor, operational chief of the web blocknative firm, <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/aseoconnor/status/1901723565986382066″ target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>wrote In x. “At a time when trans people are denied passports and be erased by the Government … Is this the announcement you publish?”
Eliminated after nine hours
The announcement, published on March 17, was withdrawn about nine hours later after receiving more than one million visits. Many key figures in the Solana ecosystem that had initially committed to the publication, like or retweeting it, then distance themselves.

Adam Cochran, partner of Cinneamhain Ventures, <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/adamscochran/status/1901801566468010473″ target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>indicated in an x publication That support for the announcement disappeared almost as fast as it was published. “They withdrew him because he damaged his business, not because they thought it was wrong,” he wrote.

Some first supporters of the announcement then reversed their position. Tushar Jain, co -founder of Multicoin Capital, <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/TusharJain_/status/1901815133481099291″ target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>eliminated His initial publication called him “bold and risky” and then suggested that he should have addressed “deeper cultural war problems” instead of “surface” issues such as pronouns. The x account for the nft Penguins Pudgy collection too <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/itsmommymilkers/status/1901771615677153381″ target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>appeared To support the announcement at the beginning, responding with a GIF rocket, but then silently eliminated the publication.
Change of values
The reaction was not only about the announcement itself, but of what it meant. As Condesk points out, only months ago, the Solana Foundation He had positioned in itself as a defender of diversity and inclusion. In his Singapore conference, his code of conduct explicitly prohibited discrimination based on “gender identity and expression. Now, some felt that Solana was changing her messages to align with the new political climate after Donald Trump's return to the White House.

“The problem with Solana's announcement is not the announcement in isolation,” Ceteris, Delphi Digital Research Chief, “wrote,” but the fact that since the elections have gone from a non -political technological platform to please the current political climate. And when it changes their values depending on who is in charge, it has no value. “

The feeling echoed the Coinbase base product, leading Aneri Patel, who <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/0xAneri/status/1901729573391540598″ target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>criticized Solana approach. “This new Solana announcement loses the brand a lot,” Patel wrote in an x post. “Offensive, shuddering and complacent. The base is for everyone. Solana co -opted the phrase 'is for everyone' last week too. This announcement shows that there is still a long way to really go to embrace that spirit.”
'It is not that the ecosystem represents'
In the middle of the uproar, Matt Sorg, Vice President of technology of the Solana Foundation, tried to clarify that the announcement did not represent the entire ecosystem, writing <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/tamgros/status/1901923859735142719″ target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>In a publication x That “although it is published on the main channel, it is not as if it represents the ecosystem excited about the message.”

Sorg also suggested that only a “very few people” had a direct participation with the production of the announcement and that much of the work had been subcontracted. However, this explanation did little to calm the criticisms of those who questioned how an announcement like this could have been approved at all.

Some in the community rushed to point out that Solana's identity crisis was becoming a pattern. “Solana strives so much to be the white man chain”, x Heart User Heart <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://x.com/heartereum/status/1901958708181032972″ target=”_blank”>joined“While the AVG TX size makes you think that it is based on Bangalore.”
While many were upset by the announcement, others still defended it, arguing that the reaction was exaggerated and the announcement itself was “<a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/itzjoshuajake/status/1901768611381100955″ target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>Really brilliant marketing. “
