Stacks to bring Bitcoin to Aptos network via sBTC integration

bitcoin (btc) Layer 2 Stacks is integrating bitcoin into the Aptos ecosystem. This integration will allow btc to be used in decentralized applications (dApps) built on Aptos using the Move programming language.

The bitcoin integration will be done through sBTC, a 1:1 btc-backed asset, which will enable bitcoin transactions on layer-2 networks like Stacks. This integration will make sBTC accessible to all Aptos developers and users, creating new possibilities for bitcoin functionality.

“The integration of sBTC into Aptos reduces the barriers between the world’s most adopted digital asset and the Internet-grade, real-world applications that Bitcoiners have been eagerly awaiting,” said Mitchell Cuevas, Executive Director of the Stacks Foundation.

The integration aims to combine the security of bitcoin with the scalability of Aptos, enabling developers to build innovative solutions in gaming, ai, social platforms, DeFi protocols, and nft marketplaces on the Aptos network.

“This integration instantly makes bitcoin highly capable beyond being a store of value, enabling its use in complex smart contracts and decentralized applications,” said Bashar Lazaar, Director of Ecosystem and Partnerships at Aptos Foundation.

Current bitcoin holders will be able to participate in a wide range of applications on the Aptos Network, improving the utility of their assets within the ecosystem.
