In recent years, Square Enix has explored the Web3 arena through various initiatives. However, Symbiogenesis marks an important milestone as it is the company’s first full game based on NFT and its first internal project operating within the Ethereum ecosystem. The game’s turn-based gameplay is intertwined with the story, which evolves as players complete missions and hold or trade NFTs.

Symbiogenesis, which was announced in November 2021, is a game that combines character NFTs with strategic gameplay mechanics. Players who have character NFTs can create “NFT replicas” to share story details with other players. Also allows players to duplicate and trade digital art for their characters, allowing them to showcase their distinct narratives to other players while participating in a collective effort as a community to accomplish the mission.
Although the game features multiple possible endings, only a trio of players who meet particular criteria will have the privilege of embarking on the final “World Quest.” The outcome of this mission is solely in the hands of these three chosen ones, as they have the power to shape the conclusion of the narrative and ultimately decide the fate of the world and its inhabitants.
