This initiative focuses on driving the adoption of web3 technology by offering a scalable, secure, and easy-to-use ethereum Layer-2 solution. The new platform is designed to integrate decentralized technology with consumer-oriented applications in the entertainment, gaming, and financial arenas.
Soneium is being developed in collaboration with leading web3 organizations including Astar Network, Circle, Chainlink, Alchemy, and The Graph.
What is Soneium?
Soneium is a next-generation Layer 2 ethereum blockchain built by Sony Block Solutions Labs that emphasizes scalability, security, and ease of use, aiming to support a broad spectrum of applications.
“We believe that developing a comprehensive blockchain-based Web3 solution is very important for the Sony Group, which has developed a wide variety of businesses under its purpose of ‘filling the world with excitement, through the power of creativity and technology,’” said Jun Watanabe, President of Sony Block Solutions Labs. “We will work to create diverse businesses and new use cases with the goal of delivering customer value that can only be enjoyed through Web3 technology to as many users as possible and making people’s lives richer and more colorful.”
Built on the Optimism Foundation’s Op Stack, Soneium is fully EVM-compatible, making it accessible to developers looking to build and scale high-volume applications.
Sony Block Solutions Labs is preparing for the launch of the Soneium testnet, which will give developers the initial opportunity to work directly with the blockchain. In the coming weeks, Soneium plans to publish technical documentation that will outline the platform’s features and provide the tools and SDKs needed for developers to start developing on Soneium right away.
