x.com/0xPolygon” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>Polygon has acquired a zero-knowledge engineering and research company x.com/Toposware” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>toposwaremarking its third investment in zero-knowledge technology startups in the last three years.
Polygon, a Layer 2 solution for ethereum, has integrated Toposware's team of 11 engineers into its zero-knowledge research and development division.
This acquisition supports Polygon's focus on ZK rollups, which improve the privacy and scalability of blockchain protocols.

Polygon and Toposware have been working together on a type 1 prover, which facilitates the adoption of zero-knowledge proofs by ethereum-based blockchains.
Marc Boiron, CEO of Polygon Labs, shared: “The Toposware team’s deep zero-knowledge and cryptography expertise, as well as their excellent engineering skills, have made them the perfect choice to help advance our vision of a web3 unified. Additionally, our previous collaboration on Type 1 Prover and Toposware's work to unify blockchains has proven that they are extremely well suited to help develop and expand our prover and AggLayer development in the future.”
Zero-knowledge proofs allow blockchain protocols to exchange information without compromising user privacy. This technology addresses scalability challenges and is already used in several sectors, including blockchain gaming, nft-powered loyalty programs, the metaverse, and tokenization of real-world assets.
It's worth noting that Polygon had also previously committed $1 billion for zero-knowledge-related investments in 2021, including acquiring Hermez Network for $250 million in August 2021 and Mir for $400 million.
