A new chapter opens for the Otherside project. Yuga Labs announced on Tuesday the release of Legends of Mara, a collection-based 2D strategy game.
A new step for Yuga Labs
mara legends starts right after Otherside’s second ride, organized on March 25th. 7,200 players participated in this live test of the persistent world imagined by Yuga Labs. For this experiment, the community was divided into four teams, headed by Jimmy Wong, Brycent, Lowbellie, and Champ Medici. Players explored the Yuga Lab metaverse, participating in various activities and contests.
The new episode announced on Tuesday consists of a collection-based 2D strategy game. It will focus on the origins of the Kodas, their primary relationship with their environment, and the history of the Other Side.
The Kodas are the main guardians of the Other Side. They are present in certain Otherdeed NFTs and can be detached from or added to. As indicated by Yuga Labs, each Otherdeed holder, called “Voyagers”, will be able to claim a Vessel NFT. Vessels are meteorites that players will use to defend the Other Side.
These vessels can become apprentices known as Mara, who will be able to perform one of three roles: hunt, farm, or enchant. Maras will be separate ERC-721 tokens from Vessels, with a new contract. On top of that, Maras can eventually evolve into “Kodamaras”, which are more skilled creatures.
Some details of the game are still unclear and there is a lot of speculation about it. Some, for example, think that it will be a 2D strategy game like Age of Empires or Command and Conquest. In fact, we’ll know more in a few weeks. The ship claim period will open in April, while the game will begin in June.
Until then, enthusiasm is high among the Otherdeed community. The minimum price increased by almost 20% immediately after the Yuga Labs announcement.
