renowned photographer, justin aversano, has continued to dominate the NFT landscape with the completion of his collection, ‘Smoke and Mirrors’. The artist recently released 78 new silkscreens featuring a portrait of an individual with whom he has interacted, printed on Egyptian papyrus. Each item will be on display at the Gabba Gallery, located in Los Angeles, through April 8.
Prior to the start of the show, Aversano coined all of the new pieces in the series as NFTs and released them on OpenSea, where they sold out quickly. Dubbed Smoke and Mirrors, the entire collection has so far had a trading volume of 971 ETH, or about $1,739,000, with a minimum price of 1,298 ETH, or $2,325 at press time.
According to Aversano, the project took three years to complete and is intended to represent a complete tarot deck. Within the period, he photographed various characters, including artists, astrologers, shamans, psychics, family members, and even famous people like the Winklevoss twins.
In a statement, he says, “There are all these people who are in the project because I admired them or they are part of my daily life, and they represent that card.” In order for a photo to be included as a model in your tarot deck, you note that it must have a “true reflection” what the card means.
After 5 magical years, the Smoke and Mirrors Book and Tarot deck is now available thanks to @TransientLabs
The launch of the book coincides with a gallery exhibition that we are organizing in @gabbagallery (3126 Beverly Blvd) from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm today. We hope to see you there! https://t.co/N2E31io2R9

One of the early trendsetters in NFT photography
The photographer’s desire “evolve through the medium” it was primarily the reason he chose to screen print the portraits. In the past, she has resorted to traditional photographic processes to add pigment to portraits of him, such as polaroids for “The Birthday Project” in 2012 and blueprinted for “Twin Flames” in 2017.
The latter was also coined as an NFT collection, setting a precedent for photography projects on the blockchain. It has proven to be quite successful, with over 5,900 ETH or $10.7 million in trading volume to date.
