As Web3 games showed resilience despite the cryptocurrency bear market, professionals working in the space predict that the coming year will be more eventful for the blockchain gaming niche.
Henry Chang, CEO of South Korean game development company Wemade, believes there will be a rise in blockchain-based games released in 2024. Chang told Cointelegraph in a statement that there will be more complex Web3 applications within games. . Chang said:
“As developers gain experience and confidence, we should also see greater experimentation and sophisticated use of blockchain elements in game mechanics and gameplay, and a wider variety of Web3 games from different genres.”
In addition to the number of games coming out, Chang also suggested that more game studios are likely to include Web3 in their portfolio. The executive believes this is due to the inherent characteristics of blockchain games, which allow it to provide new revenue streams, create new experiences, and make community participation more immersive through token-controlled benefits.
Chang also noted that games combined with blockchain give players back ownership of game assets, connect the real-world economy with games, and make them interoperable by linking them into “a cohesive whole.”
Bartosz Skwarczek, founder and CEO of G2A Capital Group, the company behind the G2A gaming marketplace, echoed many of Chang's sentiments and said there will be more collaboration between traditional industry players and Web3 startups in 2024.
According According to a Nov. 2 press release, Microsoft backed Chang's Wemade with its Web3 push. On November 16, Skwarczek's G2A, which is a traditional gaming provider, opened its own non-fungible token (nft) marketplace focused on Web3 games.

Skwarczek told Cointelegraph that more collaborations will lead to greater widespread adoption of Web3 games. Skwarczek said:
“With improved accessibility and easy-to-use interfaces, we can also expect more elaborate game designs and more engaging gameplay mechanics, appealing to a broader audience.”
The executive believes that the integration of NFTs for game assets and the emergence of a true Triple A rated Web3 game may be the catalyst to redefine blockchain gaming in the coming year.

How Web3 games can recruit more players
While there are many things to look forward to in 2024, one of the biggest challenges of blockchain gaming is incorporating a broader player base. According to Chang, blockchain technology is complex for most game designers and developers. This means that users themselves will find it difficult to understand the technology.
Despite these obstacles, Chang believes that making it easier for developers to integrate Web3 elements into their games and making blockchain parts more intuitive and native to games could solve the problem. The executive believes that making these things easier for the average gamer to understand will allow them to adapt much faster, which will lead to broader adoption of Web3 in games.
Meanwhile, Skwarczek reiterated that there needs to be “a groundbreaking Web3 title” that sets the standard for blockchain gaming and improves the overall experience for players. “That's the missing piece to attract attention and mass adoption of Web3,” Skwarczek added.
