DeLorean, the famous automobile manufacturer recognized for the iconic DMC-12 sports car that appears in 'Back to the Future'', revealed its plans to introduce a web3 marketplace in collaboration with crypto payments company MoonPay.
Created in partnership with Otherlife (now owned by MoonPay), the marketplace aims to empower DeLorean enthusiasts to participate in buying, selling and trading vehicle reservation slots through blockchain technology.
Aiming to improve transparency throughout the booking process, it will use web3 to monitor vehicle performance analytics, providing buyers with an immutable record of each car's historical and performance data.
Launching on DeLorean.com in Q4 2024, existing construction space holders will initially be able to manage reservations, with new ones opening soon after.

Such an effort could be heard because DeLorean had previously introduced a similar initiative in 2022 together with nft crypto startup IQ.
During that time, DeLorean had proposed providing tokenized reservations for upcoming cars, each accompanied by a digital representation of the vehicle as a Collectible nft.
However, nft IQ is no longer operational, as evidenced by the missing URL and the lack of updates on your social media accounts from 2022.
It appears that DeLorean has parted ways with nft IQ. In response to queries about the previous dual digital concept and its continuity, a representative mentioned that Otherlife would be “re-evaluating the entire strategy to ensure optimal user experience in the future.
While there may have been setbacks in the past, DeLorean's collaboration with MoonPay signals a promising future for enthusiasts and collectors alike in the blockchain-powered world of automotive commerce.
