The pieces will be displayed in the museum along with works by Pablo Picasso and Frida Kahlo.
NFTs Enter the Museum: A New Era in Art Collection
Cozomo de’ Medici, a network art influencer, is making a generous NFT donation to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). De’ Medici is enthusiastic about bridging the gap between digital art and physical art. Furthermore, the contextualization of historically significant works alongside iconic pieces in the museum is a significant achievement.
The donation has received strong support from LACMA CEO Michael Govan. In a press release, Govan said he was grateful for de’ Medici’s forward-thinking generosity. He also praised how the donation will expand the museum’s art collection. The donation will not only expand the diversity of the museum’s art collection, but will also challenge the museum to create new methods and techniques to preserve NFTs and other works created on the blockchain.
NFTs have been making waves recently in the world of physical art. Last week, yuga laboratories made a significant donation of a CryptoPunk to the Pompidou Center in Paris. Additionally, Larva Labs donated one of their iconic Autoglyph NFTs to the same museum. The contributions are part of Yuga Labs’ Punks Legacy Project, which launched in December with a donation from CryptoPunk to the Miami Institute of Contemporary Art.
With these donations, it appears that NFTs are slowly but surely moving from their digital domains into the realm of physical art organizations.
