Vishal Gupta, who has been the head of exchange at Coinbase, is reportedly leaving his post after more than two years at the US-based cryptocurrency exchange.
According to a Bloomberg report on April 10, Gupta planned to exit Coinbase but remain in the crypto space, suggesting that he might be planning to start a new project focused on blockchain or digital assets. Prior to Coinbase, Gupta was a Head of USD Coin (USDC) for stablecoin issuer Circle, as well as a Vice President at Goldman Sachs.

The reported departure of the exchange head came amid legal and regulatory scrutiny at Coinbase. In March, the crypto exchange reported receiving a notice of Wells from the US Securities and Exchange Commission, hinting at possible enforcement action. Coinbase is also backing plaintiffs in a lawsuit against the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control over its decision to sanction mixer Tornado Cash.
At press time, neither Gupta’s LinkedIn page nor his Twitter profile showed any change in his employment at Coinbase. Cointelegraph also reached out to Coinbase regarding Gupta, but did not receive a response.
