Decentralized oracle network Chainlink has launched its data streams and verifiable random functions (VRFs) on Base, a Layer 2 blockchain developed by Coinbase, the firm said in a statement Thursday. Press releaseWith the latest integrations, the entire Chainlink product suite is now accessible to Base developers.
“Base’s development environment is ideal for Chainlink’s products,” said Thodoris Karakostas, director of blockchain partnerships at Chainlink Labs.
Dataflows and VRFs on Chainlink Base aim to provide Base developers with essential tools to build secure, high-performance decentralized applications (dApps).
“We are excited to see all of Chainlink’s infrastructure solutions now on Base for developers to build next-generation on-chain applications,” said Tom Vieira, Chief Product Officer at Base.
Chainlink Data Streams offers low-latency market data and automated execution, the company noted. It enables high-throughput DeFi products to compete with centralized exchanges in terms of speed and user experience, while maintaining security and decentralization.
The solution allows dApps to access real-time data on demand, rather than receiving periodic updates at fixed intervals, the company said.
Meanwhile, Chainlink VRF introduces secure on-chain random number generation to support smart contracts on Base. The service is particularly useful for building blockchain games and non-fungible tokens (nfts), as well as for building applications that require transparency and fair outcomes.
Chainlink said developers can benefit from the recent VRF v2.5 upgrade, which comes with additional benefits such as seamless billing, seamless upgrades to future versions, and better gas consumption prediction. The combination of these improvements points to new possibilities for VRF applications.
