Cryptocurrency researcher ZachXBT revealed on social media that his X account and a few others received a subpoena from a court requesting additional information for unspecified reasons. On October 21 he shared two screenshots of the request.
The first described the court’s request for specific information that X was mandated to provide. The second screenshot showed the notice sent to the social media platform about the legal investigation.
The reasons for the subpoena remain unclear
Despite the need for greater clarity on the reason for the subpoena, the information requested is extensive and covers names, billing records, IP addresses, phone numbers, detailed text logs, and session time logs, among other points of reference. data.

However, ZachXBT noted that the broad nature of the request can only ensure that X can provide part of it, particularly since the investigation did not appear to be related to his account.
In response to speculation from some X users suggesting that ZachXBT could be called as a witness in court, he indicated would refuse to help due to concerns about the approach taken.
In June 2023, nft trader Jeffrey Huang, also known as MachiBigBrother, filed a lawsuit against the blockchain researcher in connection with research published in June 2022. ZachXBT responded to the lawsuit, dismissing it as “baseless” and an attempt to repress freedom of expression. He expressed his commitment to vigorously contest the allegations.
Previous ZachXBT Defamation Lawsuit
In a follow-up post related to Huang’s lawsuit, ZachXBT provided a link to the Medium article titled “22,000 eth Embezzled and Over Ten Failed Projects: The Story of Big Brother Machi (Jeff Huang).” It alleged that Huang was involved in more than ten failed pump-and-dump tokens and nft projects, including Formosa Financial, a treasury management service.
According to ZachXBT, the embezzled treasury funds were subsequently sent to several wallet accounts, including one associated with the ethereum Name Service domain harrisonhuang.eth. Combining this information with other blockchain data, ZachXBT concluded that these addresses were linked to Jeff Huang/Mithril, ultimately placing responsibility on Huang for the drain of funds.
However, in August 2023, Huang withdrew his defamation lawsuit after ZachXBT watered down its accusations. Notably, prominent figures such as Tron founder Justin Sun and Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao supported ZachXBT and contributed over $1 million in donations in just a few days. ZachXBT later stated its intention to provide transparency in the return of unspent legal defense funds.
