Web3 game Apeiron announced the start of its Guild Wars tournament on May 21, with a prize pool of $1 million. The competition will begin with different online regional preliminaries until June 25, followed by an in-person showdown taking place in Hong Kong in the third quarter.
Apeiron co-founder Frank Cheng explained to crypto Briefing that the Guild Wars tournament takes advantage of the competitive nature of the game.
“The game is real-time and there is an action element with which you can directly control the movements of your main avatar, and you can also use cards depending on the real-time situation. It's quite similar to Clash Royale and Warcraft Rumble,” Cheng said.
Fostering a competitive landscape for Apeiron is an important strategy for the team, as it is a key component in attracting more players, streamers, and commentators to the ecosystem. “Apeiron is a fun game to play and watch at the same time. “Many of our upcoming exhibitions and launch events will focus on competition.”
The $1 million prize pool will be split equally between cash and nft and will go to the top guilds. The event is open to the entire Web3 community and is already attracting major guilds such as Avocado DAO and GuildFi.
Why Ronin?
Apeiron was initially deployed on Polygon's infrastructure, but the team moved the project to Ronin in December 2023. Cheng explains that one of the reasons behind this move is the Ronin ecosystem's potential offerings for partnerships.
“In Web3, I think one of the most important things between developers is collaboration. And being in the Ronin Network is like being part of a family. And it is important that we support not only SkyMavis and Axie Infinity, but also other Ronin chain games in the ecosystem. We will make partnerships, we will make collaborations. It is a very founder-friendly environment that I only understood after making the decision to migrate to Ronin.”
The Apeiron co-founder adds that Ronin presents itself as a very dedicated team, with extensive support, such as marketing and technology, something that some blockchains lack today.
Furthermore, Cheng praises the easy-to-use wallet that Ronin was able to offer its users, which he says is suitable for mobile gamers, a niche treated as the driving factor for gaming.
“Mobile gamers, Asian gamers, this is probably where we see the earliest adoption compared to Steam console games. I think mobile game players are probably more receptive to blockchain operations, payments, and microtransactions. So mobility is something we want. (…) I would say that they are actually one of the most powerful and easy-to-use mobile gaming wallets.”
