Zeal, the blockchain network launched in 2020, has officially gone from a layer 1 to an ethereum Layer-2 protocol.
Zeal announced the successful transition in an x of March 26 <a target="_blank" data-ct-non-breakable="null" href="https://x.com/Celo/status/1904776407215202508″ rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank” text=”null” title=”https://x.com/Celo/status/1904776407215202508″>maildeclaring that “zeal is officially an ethereum Layer 2 protocol.” In the thread, the organization said that the new protocol presents blocks of a second, subcontinated transaction costs and USDT (USDT) and USDC (USDC) of Tether as gas.
Zeal proposed for the first time this transition in the summer of 2023, and now it is completed after block production on the old layer 1 stopped and continued in the new network. The new platform is based on the OP technology battery and an optimistic implementation of Rollups.

Architecture based on optimism
Blockchain rollups are layer 2 scale solutions designed to group multiple transactions from the main block chain, reducing congestion and decrease transaction rates. Optimistic Rollups owe their name to their assumption that transactions outside the chain are validly valid, they only resort to fraud tests during a period of challenge if discrepancies are detected in the main chain.
Marek Olszewski, CEO of the CLABS CELLO DEVELOPER, told Cointelegraph that “migrating to an ethereum L2 improves the safety and scalability of heat.” Added:
“Celo transactions are now anchored to ethereum, inheriting their economic safety and decentralization in battle. Zeal L2 also offers block times of a second and almost snapshot confirmations.”

Taking advantage of ethereum's network effects
Irfan Shaik, founder of the Rollup protocol interstatal, also recognized the change as positive for the protocol. He stressed that ethereum “has the biggest network effects of any chain,” adding:
“The 1S layer with liquidity fragmentation can take advantage of the largest available liquidity group, the eth 1S layer.”
Olszewski also shared his enthusiasm for the transition to the OP technology stack, saying that it allows “a deeper composability with native ethereum applications and protocols.” The new system is also significantly simplified, with 365,000 less code lines, decreasing the attack surface and, according to him, which leads to a lighter, cleaner and cleaner code base.
He also stressed that the update retained the story of the five -year zeal zeal chain and was carried out reliably. The Token was also transferred to the ethereum block chain, which Olszewski said that his liquidity should increase. He explained:
“What this means is that zeal becomes a fully aligned ethereum layer, by architecture, by ecosystem and by mission.”
