In terms of regional search, Google Trends revealed that countries like Spain and the Philippines took the lead. People in these countries registered more users searching for the term Solana than ethereum.
In 2023, Google searches for “Solana” surpassed those for “ethereum” for the first time since the launch of both cryptocurrencies in 2020 and 2015, respectively.
The move comes after the digital asset moved to XRP as the world's fifth-largest cryptocurrency, based on market capitalization on December 21.
The proof-of-stake (PoS) protocol continued its upward movement, surpassing BNB with a market capitalization of $41.9 billion the following day. SOL briefly claimed the fourth position among the top five digital assets before retracing its steps to fifth place, which was previously held by XRP.
Solana invests ethereum in Google search
The war is now between Solana and the world's second largest digital asset, ethereum.
According to Google Trends data, while ethereum had maintained a considerable lead in search interest throughout the year, the shift began on December 17-23, marking a major turning point for the crypto asset.
During this period, interest in Solana surpassed that of ethereum with a search interest score of 56, surpassing ethereum's score of 50.
The increase reflects increased interest among traders, driven by the recent resurgence of digital assets and other developments within the Solana ecosystem. SOL has witnessed an impressive rise, with the digital asset currently trading around $107 per token after falling to as low as $27 this year.
With the recent price rally, Google data also predicts that the search term “Solana” is about to reach a score of 100 in terms of search interest from December 24 to 30. Google Trends said a score of 100 means the term's “peak popularity.” ”.
Interest in Solana arises in Spain and the Philippines
In terms of regional search, Google Trends revealed that countries like Spain and the Philippines took the lead. People in these countries registered more users searching for the term Solana than ethereum.
However, ethereum still maintained its dominance in countries such as Indonesia, Taiwan, and Morocco.
Google data revealed that people who searched for Solana were also curious about other activities in the blockchain ecosystem. These users also searched for meme coin projects like “Bonk” and “Tensor.”
The two digital assets recently gained attention after interest in BONK, a dog-themed memecoin, skyrocketed. As of December 8, the token surpassed its rival Pepecoin (PEPE) as the third-largest virtual asset by market capitalization in the memecoin category.
BONK has seen an impressive rise of around 370% in recent weeks.
The second memecoin project that users search on Google is called Tensor. The project is a Solana-based non-fungible token (nft) marketplace that allows merchants and creators to purchase and mint digital artworks on the platform. The creators of the project are responsible for the nft collection known as Tensorians. Over the past 30 days, the collection has seen substantial gains despite lower interest in NFTs since last year's boom.
