This month, we have the latest from two groups that are doing great work growing the Ethereum ecosystem!
Cougar for education and community development in Japan
Specializing in AI, Couger may seem like an unlikely champion of Ethereum education. However, Couger has not only explored the intersection of Ethereum and AI Y tested a zero-knowledge voting protocol – have also become avid educators and collaborators in their native Japan. Couger received a 2020 sponsorship for his ETHTerakoya meetings, as well as a series of workshops and working groups. Couger recently received a second grant to continue and expand his previous work, including:
- ID x Voting x Blockchain Working Group” bringing together corporate, technical and legal professionals to work on open standards and proofs of concept: meeting notes at Japanese Y English
- Public workshop presenting the results of the IDxVoting working group meetings: notes on Japanese Y English and complete video of the presentation (divided into Part 1 Y part 2)
- Eth2 Working Group Convened in November 2020: Notes on Japanese Y English

To watch ethereum-terakoya.org for upcoming events and meeting notes. We look forward to seeing these initiatives develop and continue to expand our support for Japan’s growing Ethereum ecosystem!
goalposter for post-hackathon support
MetaCartel DAO is a community of builders working to accelerate the growth of the Ethereum ecosystem, particularly at the application layer. In 2020, MetaCartel put a special focus on helping hackathon participants to continue developing software and dapps after the hackathon ends. Funds from the ESP grant were awarded in the form of a contribution to MetaCartel DAO to be allocated for post-hackathon support, particularly for emerging projects of the ETHOnline virtual hackathon.
In addition to providing mentorship as teams refine their products and create sustainable business models, MetaCartel DAO has awarded small grants to ETHOnline projects, including:
- Calla treasury hub of the crypto community
- Mindfula platform that automates portfolio rebalancing and dollar cost averaging
- Covera derivative protocol that uses on-chain oracles to enable trading on data streams
