The Protocol Support team is organizing a round of grants to support the upcoming Ethereum KZG Ceremony.
The KZG Ceremony is a coordinated public ritual that will provide a cryptographic foundation for Ethereum scaling initiatives such as EIP-4844. Learn more about the Ceremony and participate in the trial version at ceremony.ethereum.org. If you would like financial support to contribute at a deeper level, there are two ways to qualify:
- write your own implementation
- subjecting entropy generated by non-traditional sources or through a unique process
→ APPLY BEFORE JANUARY 31 or learn below
Writing your own implementation
The best way to avoid a ceremony-wide bug is to have as many different implementations as possible. This eliminates the possibility of single points of failure and reduces other correlated risks. To that end, we are interested in funding different implementations, especially those that feature:
- custom / bespoke BLS implementations
- auditable code
- user friendly interfaces
- good generation of randomness
- unique languages and compilers
- out-of-the-box deployments at the beginning of the contribution phase (which starts in early January and lasts for ~2 months)
This ceremony has been specifically designed to make it as simple as possible to contribute, and we encourage everyone to take a look at the specifications.
Our suggested funding requests for basic >> full featured implementations range from 10k.
Unique contribution methods
Another way to help ensure that the final outcome of the Ceremony is fair is to harvest entropy (randomness) and ensure its destruction in a creative way. We welcome proposals that:
- collect unique forms of entropy
- brings this entropy to the Ceremony
- destroy the entropy after
- documents the above in a credible/verifiable manner (e.g. video proof, a blog post with images, detailed written records)
send proposal
Anyone who thinks they could achieve some of the above points is encouraged to apply for this round of grants, as an individual or with a team.
Grants will be awarded on a case-by-case basis and on a rolling basis. You may enter more than one proposal as long as each proposal is unique and meets the requirements.
Requirements
- Proposals must be in English.
- The work must be open source.
- Proposals must aim to be complete before the end of the general listing period.
selection criteria
Surprise us with your creativity! Here are some selection criteria considerations to help guide your proposal:
- Uniqueness of the proposal
- Quality of work and experience of collaborators.
- Clarity, conciseness and organization of the proposal.
- Contributions that help a non-technical audience better understand the ceremony: why it matters and how it works
Deadline
Send by January 31, 2023 to be considered! We will track your shipment by email. The general public contribution period will likely begin in early January and last for two months, followed by the special contribution period that is specific to projects funded in this round of grants.
Watch the timeline herewith the understanding that it may change in the future.
