I thought it was time to give an update on my side of things for those interested in how we are doing on the Dutch side. My name is Jeff, founder of Ethereum and one of the three directors (along with Vitalik and Gavin) of Ethereum. ÐΞVthe development entity that builds Ethereum and all associated technology.
In the last few months I have been looking for a suitable office space to house the Amsterdam Hub. Unfortunately, it requires more work than I initially anticipated and so far I have nothing to show for it. I have passed this task on to my good friend and now colleague Maran. Maran will do his best to find the most suitable location for the Ams center and the Mist development. Those who are using the Ethereum programming language person you may want to switch to Serpent or the soon-to-be-de-facto programming language Solidity. I made the sensible decision to focus my attention on more pressing matters, such as the development of the protocol and the browser. Maybe in the future he will have time to pick up his development again.
ÐΞV Amsterdam
The lawyers finally, after 2 months, managed to establish the company here in Amsterdam (ugh, the Dutch and their bureaucracy, huh) and we have found a bank that is willing to accept us as their loyal clients (…). Right now we have a few options for our office space and I’ll write about them as soon as I know anything more concrete.
The team
About time the Ams team had a proper introduction. These guys do some serious good work!
The first one who joined the Ams team is Alex van de Sande (also know as abdicated). Alex is a gifted UX engineer and has been with us for quite some time. It was only a matter of time before he became an official member of the ÐΞV team. Alex has taken on the task of UI Developer and UX Expert and is prototyping the latest Web3 browser.
The second to join the team is Victor’s Throne. Vik is a math nut and is currently hacking the new DEVP2P and rigorously testing it. I’ve known Vik since the start of the project somewhere in January/February, he’s a great guy and a real asset to this team.
The third one who joined the team is felix long. Felix is a die-hard gopher (yes!) and the first thing he pointed out to me was that I had done a poor job of taking care of my routines and there were a lot of race conditions, very nice of him (-; Felix is going to work on the Whisper implementation once the specification is formally finalized Felix is a superstar squirrel and has the ability to become a true Ethereum Core developer.
The fourth to join the team is Daniel Nagy. Daniel has a background in cryptography and security and his first tasks are to create a comprehensive specification for our DHT implementation and development of it.
Last but not least is Maran Hidskes. Maran has been on this team before, but in a completely different role. Maran used to work on the protocol, but after generating a crying, -pissing, -poop machine new member of his family, he decided to take some time off. Now his main function is to take care of the daunting task; the administration of ÐΞV Amsterdam.
Although they are not on anyone’s team, I want to thank Nick, Caktux and Joris for their continued efforts in developing our build systems. I’d also like to thank Nick specifically for pointing out the inconsistencies between our implementations: Nick, you really are a huge pain in my ass (-;
Forward
As we move towards the next installment of Proof of Concept (PoC-7), we still have quite a bit of work ahead of us.
I’ve recently started building a toolkit so we can test Christoph’s awesome test suit (he’s on the Berlin team). Christoph has done a lot of work to develop a suitable test suit for the Ethereum protocol. I never knew that people could enjoy writing tests like you do, you have my greatest respect.
I’ve also started a cross-implementation JavaScript framework called ethereum.js. Ethereum.js is rapidly gaining adoption from the rest of the Ether Hackers and is already in use by the Go websocket & JSON RPC implementation, the C++ JSON RPC implementation, and the Node.js implementation. Ethereum.js is a true cross-deployment team effort from ÐΞV.
Our Polish partners at IMAPP (Paweł and Artur) have completed their first implementation of the JIT-compiled LLVM-based EVM implementation and have agreed to create a Go bridge so that Mist can benefit from the mentioned Ethereum contract execution speed increase. previously in gav’s update.
Fin
I’ll try to keep writing blog posts with updates on Mist, the protocol, and ÐΞV in general, so stay tuned!
