- Fusion is happening soon! This post explains how and when the update will occur, along with the client versions supported by it.
- Kiln, an Ethereum fusion testnet launched in early 2022, will shut down during the week of September 12, 2022.
- Ropsten and Rinkeby are also deprecated and are scheduled to expire in Q4 2022 and Q3 2023, respectively.
- Users and developers should migrate to Goerli & Sepolia, which will continue to be maintained and updated to reflect changes to the Ethereum mainnet for the foreseeable future.
What previously announcedthe Kiln, Ropsten and Rinkeby testnets are now deprecated and will be shut down in the coming months.
Kiln, which was launched for the purpose of testing post-merger Ethereum prior to the merger of existing testnets, will be shut down during the week of September 12, 2022. While anyone can run a node on the network, bootstrap nodes and validators maintained by test teams and customers, as well as infrastructure providers, will go down at that time. This follows the schedule set out in the deprecation announcement linked above.
Ropsten and Rinkeby are also considered deprecated, with a closing date of Q4 2022 and Q2 2023, respectively. While the networks will remain active until then, access to these networks may be restricted or phased out by infrastructure providers on a shorter period of time.
Users and developers should migrate to Goerli and/or Sepolia as both are expected to be maintained and updated in line with Ethereum mainnet changes for the foreseeable future.
Please wait for other announcements on this blog before the closures of Ropsten and Rinkeby.
Goodbye Kiln, you have lived up to your name 🔥🧱
