Incoming Mainnet Fusion
yesterday in the Consensus layer callcustomer engineers agreed on Mainnet parameters for Merge, a Bellatrix era of 144896 and a TTD from Paris of 587500000000000000000000 (tentative). The TTD is based on the difficulty of Proof of Work and is therefore a bit difficult to estimate accurately. He target date it is September 15, 2022, but this estimate could be even one week off. At the All Core Dev call next week, the estimates will be rechecked and TTD confirmed or a final adjustment will be made to best hit the target date.
Reminder๐ก: The merge consists of a sequence of two updates: bellatrix in the consensus layer followed by Paris in the execution layer.
Bellatrix updates the Beacon Chain to be “merge-aware”, incorporating the Beacon Chain with the Merge logic as validators begin to diligently monitor the proof-of-work chain to initiate the Merge transition. Bellatrix activates at the chosen time.
Paris is the Merge transition itself, in which the Ethereum Mainnet hot swaps its Proof-of-Work consensus to the Beacon Chain’s Proof-of-Stake. The Paris upgrade activates on the chosen Total Terminal Difficulty (TTD).

Stakeholders, infrastructure providers, users and community members: this is your warning. The mainnet merge sequence is engaged. Over the next five weeks, stay tuned, keep an eye out for updates, stay agile, and be prepared for anything. The following is the high level of dates and events that are expected to unfold:
- (2022/08/18) — TTD re-evaluated and finalized on All Core Devs call
- (08/18/2022 to 8/22/2022) — EL and CL teams removed Mainnet software releases
- (2022/08/23) — Customer resources, EF blog and other community and infrastructure announcements of parameters and final releases
- (2022/09/06 11:34:47am UTC) — Bellatrix mainnet update
- all concerned should upgrade to EL+CL Merge-ready nodes before this time
- All infrastructure providers, users and community members should upgrade PoW nodes to EL+CL merge ready nodes before this time
- (Estimate: 2022/9/15) — Paris Mainnet merger transition
- All infrastructure providers, users and community members should upgrade to EL+CL Merge-ready nodes before this time. Plan to set up the systems at least a week in advance and ideally before Bellatrix.
Between the initial mainnet launch announcements and the final Merge transition, users should remain diligent: monitoring customer channels, the EF blog, and other public resources for new information. Specifically, client teams could launch tanning versions of its software in this time period and, if possible, users should update.
A big shout out to the engineers, researchers, and community members who have worked tirelessly, putting countless hours into this. Merge committed stream ๐
