Ether had the worst first quarter in seven years with respect to the price action. However, the ethereum platform continues to develop as the Vitalik Buterin founder presents a new road map to increase the safety and purpose of the ecosystem.
ethereum murderers
Platforms that copy ethereum's functionality while trying to address their disadvantages are generally called “ethereum murderers”.
The conversations about ethereum's death have been so persistent that a special website called ethereum obituaries It was created. It is trace of all the “deaths” of ethereum, marking in the 133 brand at the time of publication.

ethereum is criticized for ignoring the demands and opinions of the community during the current cycle.
In general, the low performance of the ethereum market, especially compared to the success of Solana, can indicate a serious crisis.
Although ethereum's trip has been lasted lately and, sometimes, users and developers showed preference for their competitors, Ether remains the second bitcoin crypt in terms of market capitalization.
In March, ethereum surpassed its main competitor, Solana, in the volume of negotiation by 22%, becoming the leading platform in the Defi space since September 2024. In terms of TVL, ethereum is much larger than Solana.
In addition, 53% of the Stablecoin market is based on ethereum. Then, despite the decrease in continuous price, ethereum remains the second largest cryptographic brand after bitcoin.

The platform still has many supporters among cryptography enthusiasts, investors and professionals in the cryptographic sector. Buterin remains a prominent voice in the cryptographic space, and what matters most is that the platform continues to progress.
The new roadmap presented in March confirms this.
Scalability problems
The new road map, published on March 28, reveals the planned steps to address one of ethereum's most notorious problems: its poor scalability. Over time, the network experienced several important congestions that resulted in performance delays.
The most prominent example is that the network slows the Cryptokitties game in December 2017. The game involved eth transactions in the game, and in December 2017, its volume <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-42237162″ target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>Reached 10% Of all ethereum transactions, causing substantial delays in the network.

Scalability concerns were discussed in 2017, and by 2025, ethereum is still struggling to address this problem, which is very critical, since ethereum serves as the backbone for most nft and Stablecoin markets and several other decentralized platforms and tokens built on the top.
The ethereum team has been working on a solution since then, and the transition of 2022 of the test mechanism for proof of work to the Swallow test was one of the crucial steps in this direction.
In addition to addressing scalability problems, the new roadmap aims to increase network safety.
Digesting the new roadmap
Buterin described three directions in the future development of ethereum:
- Increasing the number of blobs up to 72 by 2026
- Achieve instant safe purpose through 2 of 3 hybrid proof architecture
- Improvement of aggregation levels
This list may seem difficult to understand for people who are not familiar with the architecture of ethereum, so we will break it up.
The improvements will involve the increase of Roll-Ups and active Blobs. Roll-ups are intelligent contracts that resolve transactions outside the chain and transmit the data to the main network, thus raising the speed of the network and decreasing transaction costs.
There are three different layers of Roll-ups: optimism (op), zero knowledge (ZK) and trust execution environments (TEE).
ethereum aims to climb through the fragment, a division of the network into smaller manageable sections. Blobs are proto-donksharding objects used to structure data. The increase in the BLOBS number improves the work of the Rollups.
According to Buterin, for the end of the year, the updated network to the Pectra version (an update is scheduled for May 2025) will use six blobs, while the Fusaka version of the network can use up to 72 Blobs.
The base address of the new roadmap is implementing a hybrid proof architecture that will increase the speed and solidity of the ethereum network.
To avoid dependence on a single type of test, ethereum will use a hybrid model in which transactions can be ended immediately if their state roots are approved both through ZK and in the TEE rolls.
If ZK or Tee does not approve a transaction, it is approved with the help of the OP Rollups, but it will take much longer.
According to Bugerin's description, such cases will not be normal. Most transactions will end instantly while two independent roll-ups are approved, one of which (ZK) is completely without confidence.
BUTERIN concludes:
This leads us to a pragmatic level of greater final and rapid safety, while leading us to the key milestone of stage 2 of full without confidence in the event that the test systems (OP and ZK) work correctly. It will reduce the round trip times for market manufacturers at 1 hour or even much lower, allowing rates for the cross-l2 bridges based on the intention to be very low.
In the final part of the roadmap, Bugerin emphasized that the development team should work harder in standardized tests of standardized tests to the entire ethereum ecosystem.
ZK -based test systems should use single aggregate tests to reduce gas expenses. VITALK appointed Layer2 applications and Zkemail type wallet recoveries “The most natural initial use cases” for that.
The road map received mixed comments, since some in the ethereum community did not like their focus on Capa2. Will the proposed changes prevent ethereum from falling? Time will say it.
