Tenderly co-founder and senior vice president Nebojsa Urosevic said ethereum must adapt to growing transaction volumes without charging users a fortune as global adoption accelerates.
ethereum (eth) is about to implement the much-discussed Dencun upgrade, a technological overhaul at the base layer of the blockchain aimed at bolstering network performance and reducing transaction costs by implementing proto-danksharding.
Dencun will unlock expanded data capacity for L2 solutions like Optimism through blob access. Urosevic, who has 10 years of soft engineering experience and maintains a custom scalable ethereum virtual machine (EVM) at Tenderly, believes this upgrade is critical for the future of defi and important for removing barriers to entry for new users.
To ensure that blockchain technology reaches global scale, we must address these issues early on, especially as the capacity of the ethereum network becomes more limited. Sustainably scaling ethereum will ensure there is enough room for new applications to emerge without compromising the network's security, decentralization, or user experience.

Leveraging multichain technology for ethereum scalability
As ethereum cannot scale infinitely without encountering the blockchain trilemma, layered multi-chain solutions have proven to be an efficient path to long-term scalability, Urosevic shared with crypto.news.
Over the years, the developer community has worked on many solutions to scale ethereum. While each of them has its benefits, zero-knowledge and optimistic rollups are the most promising, efficient, and secure.

Tenderly co-founder said ethereum.org/2024/02/27/dencun-mainnet-announcement” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>ethereum Dencun will incentivize these rollups to launch even more general-purpose and app-specific chains to serve different types of users. This seamless portability of tools, made cheaper by addressing the cost of performance through Dencun, will be important for web2 companies as defi is incorporated en masse into more traditional companies, according to Urosevic.
Improve developer infrastructure for widespread adoption
Tenderly's senior vice president commented that the evolution of multi-chain ecosystems will ultimately foster additional levels of complexity. However, the software veteran said that providing web3 developers with standardized tools and practices while lowering the barrier to entry for web2 creators could facilitate a frictionless community for innovators.
If Dencun kept his promises, this solution would be easier to achieve, Urosevic suggested.
Enabling the growth and development of the blockchain industry on a larger scale starts with supporting those who build it. Ensuring a seamless experience for Web3 developers and equipping them with essential tools and infrastructure is a prerequisite for further innovation.
