The 2nd edition of ethereum.org/en/contributing/translation-program/translatathon/”>ethereum.org Translatathon It's in the books! This year, we saw 327 contributors translate an incredible 2.53 million words across 70 languages. Let's see the details:
What is the Translatathon?
The Translatathon is our annual translation contest to increase the amount of non-English ethereum content.
Participation is open to anyone who is bilingual and no technical knowledge is required. During the Translatathon, participants can learn more about ethereum while contributing to ethereum.org and competing for prizes.
- 2 weeks of applications
- 9 days of translations
- 2 weeks of quality evaluations
The goal was to get more translations into underrepresented languages, expand our multilingual content, bring in new contributors, and reward existing ones.
The numbers: 2023 vs 2024
Comparison of activity with last year Translate:
- Active translators: 217 → 327 (50% increase)
- Translated words: 1.47 million → 2.53 million (70% increase)
- Translated languages: 56 → 70 (25% increase)

We distributed $30,000 in prizes to 189 eligible participants. The top 10 translators also got tickets and discounts to Devcon. It's not so bad!

What this means for ethereum.org
The Translatathon will have a significant impact on the translated content available on ethereum.org! Here's what we're adding to the site:
- 1.35 million newly translated words
- 3173 pages added or updated in 55 languages
- Added 6 new languages (English, English, Hausa, Shona, Tagalog and Yoruba)
The bigger picture
With these additions, ethereum.org/”>ethereum.org It will cover 68 languages other than English. Add English to the mix and we have native content for approximately 5.5 billion people. That's about 67% of the world can now start learning about ethereum in their native language!
Beyond ethereum.org: impact on the ecosystem
Thanks to our amazing collaborators, many languages in ethereum.org”>ethereum.org They were already completely translated. To make sure everyone could join in the fun (and compete for prizes), we also included content from other ethereum projects. Here is the breakdown of translation activity:
ETHGlossary
As part of the Translatathon, we created ETHGlossary, our new tool that is turning ethereum terminology into a multi-language adventure.
ETHGlossary gamifies the translation of ethereum terms in over 60 languages. You can vote for the best translations of key concepts and have discussions about why certain translations work (or don't)! We were delighted that 84 contributors suggested 6,226 translations in 40 languages during the translation period.
Our goal is to continue iterating on ETHGlossary, becoming an open source application that everyone can use and contribute to. Our goal is to create the best resource for ethereum terms in all languages, powering the entire ecosystem.
Meet in real life
To bring translators together, we support community-organized translation centers in 11 countries. Over 100 people showed up to translate, chat about ethereum, and have a good time!

While the Translatathon may be over, our translation program never sleeps.
