Amid the ongoing controversy over serial eth dumps by the ethereum Foundation, bitcoin.com CEO claims that “this cycle may skip eth” due to ethereum's untimely “wookie energy.” Are political leanings in the crypto community that critical in 2025?
ethereum has been under fire lately. The ethereum Foundation angered the community by selling large amounts of eth, driving its price down each time. Many expressed criticism of EF executive Aya Miyagotchi. Vitalik Buterin insisted that it is up to him, not the community, to decide on the board of directors of the ethereum Foundation team. This statement sparked further debate about whether ethereum is becoming centralized and will not be community-based.
EF employee Josh Stark's comments further fueled people's ire as his words were loosely interpreted as “at the Ethetherum Foundation we use ethereum to get rid of eth.”
Riding on the wave of people's ramblings, bitcoin.com CEO Corbin Fraser published a post on towards diversity, equity, inclusion and environmental friendliness, and was approved by “WEF vegetarian leftists” and brought together weirdos and creatives instead of “crypto people.”

He went on to say, “The new meta is Manpower,” which is, according to Corbin, “PoW mining, DGAF aesthetics, Murcia, memes, Trump. The right. Competition.” Corbin concluded that this cycle can skip ethereum, although he hopes to be proven wrong. At the end of the post, Corbin added a “Tired Bag Support” signature, likely mocking the “milady” signature previously used by Vitalik Buterin.
The alleged explosion
Although the tweet did not receive much attention, some people discussed the politics of the crypto industry. bitcoin.com author David Sencil decided Corbin was cooking and dedicated a <a target="_blank" href="https://news.bitcoin.com/ceo-of-bitcoin-com-puts-ethereum-on-blast-for-woke-ideology/” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>featured article to the position of CEO, delving into its meaning. The headline proclaims: “bitcoin.com CEO Puts ethereum Booming on ‘Woke’ Ideology.”
In fact, the post got around 500 views and a couple of replies. However, trading with several other crypto Xters continued. In his article, Sencil featured an interesting post by a crypto influencer, Beanie, who stated that politics and religion should have no place in the crypto community and recalled how ethereum fired Brantly Millegan from ethereum Name Service over an old post on the that expressed his “basic Catholic beliefs.”
<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter“>
Beanie noted that ethereum has the opportunity to “restore its glory,” by abandoning politics in favor of technology.
That's an interesting and important take, no doubt. Ironically, it is reminiscent of the old term “ethereum killer”, coined to describe any new blockchain ecosystem that runs smart contracts and hosts dApps created after ethereum. Some of these projects are killing it, but none of them killed ethereum yet. Solana somewhat snatched the lead as a meme token far from home, but if we judge from the perspective of trading volume and market capitalization, ethereum is still there, still occupying the first position among projects with similar functionality, which which means that in the long run, ethereum proves to be the best performing ethereum killer in the market.
The alleged loss of glory
ethereum has a lot of work to do. ethereum taught people what the scalability issues are and how long it can take to address them (like <a target="_blank" href="https://www.binance.com/en/square/post/01-22-2025-multicoin-capital-co-founder-criticizes-ethereum-s-scalability-issues-19261244478530″ target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>forever?). However, the criticism directed at ethereum and its supposed leftist or liberal vibes seems to be hit and miss. Because? First of all, why talk about “restoration of glory” when the project in question is one of the world leaders in the sector? It's like talking about the “crash” or even the “death” of bitcoin when it drops several percent and is still one of the most valuable assets in the whole damn world.
What about the glory of ethereum? The crisis is there, without a doubt. However, the project has been evolving for years in conditions of constant crisis. It's the political vibes that don't speak to some (many in the era of Trump fever?) and distract a portion of the crypto community from ethereum's strong presence in the market. However, David Sencil does not question ethereum's strong market position in his article.
Companies develop products for their users and do not do things in a vacuum. That is why the political tendencies that the people surrounding the project may adhere to can be the key to loyalty and not the point of failure. Shiba Inu lead developer Shyhoshi Kusama weighed in on the conversation and expressed a similar stance.

Okay, people hate 'wokism'. Musk hates it, for sure. But is it “Wookie energy” driving the ethereum Foundation to dump eth en masse? Is it leftist philosophy that causes Buterin to take control of the ethereum Foundation board and dismiss community voices? Do people commenting on ethereum wokism follow your credo of distinguishing technology from ideology? Rather, they seem to be expressing their anger over Ether's self-inflicted poor performance in the market and Buterin's unpopular decisions and opinions, including the need not to fall for Trump simply because he suddenly became “pro-crypto.”
