ethereum (eth) co-founder Vitalik Buterin dismissed recent speculation that he is dumping his eth bag, saying he has not sold the digital asset for personal gain since 2018.
“I have not “sold” eth for personal gain since 2018,” Buterin said.
Several media outlets have recently reported how wallets connected to Buterin have sent Ethers to exchanges, suggesting that he was dumping the cryptocurrency.
For context, cryptoslate reported that a wallet linked to the ethereum co-founder sent more than 1,000 eth to exchanges, unknown addresses, and a Gnosis Safe Proxy wallet over a seven-day period in September.
These transactions followed a similar trend to others carried out in August and Marchleading to speculation from the crypto community that Buterin was quietly dumping his holdings.
eth transfers are donations.
However, in an October 17 post on eth/0xb8ccf84d”>WarpcastButerin clarified that the reported transactions were donations to “charities or non-profit organizations or other projects.”
Buterin said that it was not he who directly sold the asset but the “recipients who sold” because “they have to cover the expenses.” He said:
“If you see an article that says ‘Vitalik send XXX eth to (exchange)’, it’s not actually me selling, it’s almost always me making a donation to some charity or non-profit organization or other project, and the recipient “It sells because, well, it has to cover expenses.”
This statement aligns with recent transactions made by one of the charities associated with Buterin, Kanro, a charity in focus on research into global solutions to pandemics.
cryptoslateusing Arkham Intelligence data, confirmed that Kanro sent more than $15 million in USDC stablecoin to a multi-signature wallet last week. The wallet would later transfer $500,000 to Coinbase in two transactions and $14.93 million to Gemini.
Meanwhile, Buterin remains an eth whale, according to Arkham intelligence. data. He holds almost 250,000 units of Ether worth $390 million at its address.
