“Crypto explorers” known as Bankless have identified Distributed Validator Technology (DVT) as an innovative protocol that aims to improve accessibility and ease of participation in blockchain networks. The DVT approach involves the introduction of a “multi-sig for validators”, which divides control over a single private key among a group of validators.

DVT uses a variety of complex cryptographic techniques, including distributed key generation, Shamir secret exchange, threshold signing, and multi-party computation, to divide control over a single private key among a group of different validators. Additionally, according to Bankless’s analysis, one of the main benefits that DVT provides is reduced clipping risk for validators. Slashing refers to a penalty that validators incur, where they lose a portion of their bid for not properly adhering to the consensus rules.
This serves as a financial incentive for validators to follow the rules and not attempt any type of malicious attack. Routine events, such as a validator going offline as a result of a power outage or experiencing downtime as a result of technical issues, can also trigger an outage penalty.
The key to a more robust Ethereum network
One of the main benefits of DVT is that it helps to bridge the gap between professional bettors and individual bettors, who may not have the resources to create a strong and resilient betting setup.
According to Bankless, DVT’s approach also allows for what is known as squad staking, where small groups of individual validators can stake together safely and with minimal trust. This allows groups of friends or individuals who may not individually have 32 ETH to pool their funds and validate them under one robust system with reduced risk.
