BNB Smart Chain has unveiled its next major upgrade, BEP 336, inspired by ethereum's EIP 4844.
According to the bnb chain, BEP 336 will significantly reduce transaction costs and increase network performance. This development coincides with ethereum's Dencun upgrade that launched on the mainnet today, marking an important day for blockchain technology.
The update introduces “Blob Carrier Transactions” (BlobTx), which allow large amounts of data up to 128 KB to be stored temporarily and cost-effectively. This approach simplifies the process of verifying transactions on the network. BNB Smart Chain (BSC) improves efficiency by verifying the accuracy of data within blobs rather than each transaction individually. The feature is especially beneficial for opBNB, the layer 2 network of the BNB ecosystem.
The update includes a blob market and a pre-build contract. The former regulates blob transmission and storage costs based on network demand, while the latter adds a layer of security by verifying blob data against its references in transactions.
BEP 336 distinguishes itself from ethereum's EIP 4844 with features such as a dynamic gas pricing mechanism for blobs and a different token burning mechanism, reflecting the unique needs and structure of BSC.
BEP 336 is scheduled for gradual implementation. It will debut on the testnet in April, followed by a Magnet phase in May for further testing and optimization. The update will be released on the BSC mainnet in June via a hard fork.
