Andre Chronje, founder of Sonic Labs and called “Defi Godfather”, has criticized the solutions of ethereum L2 for its management of profits and potential misalignment with the decentralized principles of ethereum.

The debate focuses on two visions on competition for ethereum's scalability.

Critics argue that L2 generate substantial income while returning only one fraction to ethereum for the availability and safety of data.

Defenders of decentralized scalability, including chronje, advocate to improve the ethereum base layer directly using solutions such as Sonic to reduce dependence on L2 external suppliers.
