In July last year, the Swiss Privacy technology Company (Makers of Proton Mail) announced that it would launch its own bitcoin wallet, Protons wallet.
I (along with about 100,000 users) received early access to the wallet to try it and impressed me the wallet user interface. I especially liked to link a user's email address to your bitcoin address so you just need to enter the email address by sending bitcoin.
You can read my wallet review here.
Now that the wallet is available to the general public, I will recommend it to anyone who knows that you are finally ready to get your bitcoin from the hands of an exchange and your own custody. I will also recommend it to anyone who wants to make semi-regular bitcoin payments in the chain with a relatively small amount of bitcoin.
My reasons to recommend the wallet are the following:
- It is free use (users can create up to three wallets and have up to three accounts in each wallet, which is sufficient for most users, more about that. <a target="_blank" href="https://proton.me/support/wallet-create-btc-account”>here; To create more wallets or accounts, Proton charges a rate)
- It is easy to configure (you are not obliged to write the 12 -words seed phrase when you set the wallet; however, it is a good practice to do it!)
- Like Proton Mail, Proton does not have access to Proton Wallet user data, nor does it have access to the private bitcoin keys to its users
- The use of an email address (which does not have to be a proton email address) to send bitcoin reduces the probability of entering the incorrect bitcoin address in the recipient of a transaction field
- You can select the priority speed of a transaction when sending bitcoin
- You can buy bitcoin through Ramp either Dollar Use of Proton Wallet, allowing the bitcoin to buy directly to its custody
The only wallet disadvantage is that it does not admit rays transactions (consider the <a target="_blank" href="https://breez.technology/sdk/”>Breez SdkProtons team!), And it doesn't let you manage your <a target="_blank" href="https://www.kraken.com/learn/what-is-bitcoin-unspent-transaction-output-utxo”>€ (Loose change of bitcoin transactions, in terms of lay people).
However, the latter is not very important, since, again, I would recommend this wallet to those new in bitcoin Self Custody. Rubo management It is more a practice for moderate to advanced bitcoin users.
In general, Proton has created another good product here for its 100 million users and counting, and it is one that I will recommend to bitcoin Newbies in the future.
