There are now over 100,000 pieces of data written directly on the Bitcoin blockchain.
Just five days after hitting 50,000 signups, Bitcoin users using the Ordinals protocol have now signed up over 100,000 pieces of data to the Bitcoin blockchain. Since the project’s launch in January 2023, a seemingly endless stream of images, audio files, and PDFs have been uploaded.
As described above, enrollments, via the Ordinals protocol, allow users to embed data, usually images, directly into the Bitcoin blockchain, effectively enabling NFT on Bitcoin. You can find a full article on the technical ins and outs of the protocol here. Also, Matt Odell has recorded an episode of Citadel Dispatch with the creator of the protocol, casey rodarmorwhat can you listen here.
Prominent projects on Ordinals include bitcoin mushrooms, astral girls and bitcoin punks, which are Bitcoin-based payloads from the original Ethereum CryptoPunks. One of these has now sold for up to 9.5 BTC, or approximately $215,000 at the time of writing.
You can explore all the various inscriptions through the enrollment explorer. The platform has been quickly adopted by a wide range of users, from artists to businesses. It has seen an explosion in usage in recent weeks, likely as a result of the growing popularity of NFTs and the promise of an NFT built directly into the Bitcoin platform, inheriting all the qualities that make Bitcoin the layer blockchain. 1 leader.
