President Nayib Bukele invites people to move to El Salvador. Bukele posted an old-fashioned American-style poster depicting a classic American family in a living room, calling his country “the new land of the free,” a motto generally applicable to the US.

The poster calls on people to move to El Salvador, explaining that “there is no fentanyl crisis,” “no shootings,” and “no looting,” as a result of the strict security measures the government has taken during 2022 and 2023.
Likewise, the poster highlights the adoption of bitcoin as legal tender, with El Salvador being the first country in the world to present this option to tourists and residents. Likewise, President Bukele has ruled on facilitating the passage of migrants by proposing to give Salvadoran citizenship via bitcoin investments.

For some, the cartel seems to celebrate the new face that Bukele has brought to El Salvador, making a clear comparison with what the US represented back in the 1960s. Although she is widely criticized for possible human rights violations in her fight against gangs, Bukele has made security a priority in the country. According to reports, El Salvador finalized 2022 with its murder rate plummeting by 56.8%. Also Bukele celebrated a milestone of 300 days without homicides on February 14.
However, to get to this point, Bukele had to establish a state of emergency, with curfews for the population while he waged a total war with the Maras Salvatruchas, the largest national gang, since March 2022.
The poster also promotes good weather and beaches. Bukele had previously stated that the recovery of tourism in the country, one of the fastest in the world after the Covid-19 pandemic, was partly thanks to the inclusion of bitcoin in the country’s economy and also due to surfing.
Bukele has also announced major investments in emblematic beaches such as El Zonte, known as Bitcoin Beach due to its adoption. In August, the Salvadoran government earmarked an investment of $203 million to build support infrastructure for the region that includes a new drainage system, bridges, and bike paths.
