The filmmaker of an HBO documentary set to air next week hinted that he could reveal the identity of bitcoin's elusive creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.
The HBO documentary, “Money Electric: The bitcoin Mystery” is made by Cullen Hoback, creator of the acclaimed HBO miniseries “Q: Into the Storm,” which claimed to have identified several authors of the QAnon conspiracy theory.
“Some of you may have been wondering why I disappeared,” Hoback tweeted on October 3 on x. “Well, I was tracking down someone else who went missing. Are you curious to know who is behind bitcoin? #ElectricMoney: The mystery of bitcoin drops next Tuesday. It's going to be a roller coaster. x.com/hashtag/Satoshi?src=hashtag_click”>#Satoshi.”
Hoback and HBO said the next documentary will air on October 8 at 9:00 p.m. ET.

Will HBO reveal Satoshi Nakamoto's identity?
In Hoback's latest effort, the filmmaker investigates the origins of bitcoin and the mystery behind its creator.
Nakamoto's identity remains one of the biggest mysteries since bitcoin gained traction in the market. On October 31, 2008, the bitcoin whitepaper was published as an alternative to the current debt-based financial system.
The creator then went offline in December 2010 after gaining support from a group of programmers via message boards and email.

Hoback stopped short of saying that he was actually able to determine the real-world identity of Satoshi Nakamoto. The trailer for the documentary also gives no clear indication that the creator's identity will be revealed.
