grayscale CEO Michael Sonnenshein said it is optimistic about the prospects for approval of a spot bitcoin ETF (exchange-traded fund) after talks with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
“We have actively collaborated with the SEC,” Sonnenshein said. “The questions we get from them tell us that they want to get involved in this issue, that they are eager to make progress on this issue. “We feel optimistic.”
SEC's decision to deny conversion of GBTC to a bitcoin spot ETF is 'arbitrary and capricious'
Grayscale made headlines earlier this year after winning its long-running case against the SEC, when a judge ruled that the regulator's decision to deny the company's request to convert its Grayscale bitcoin Trust (GBTC) into an ETF was “arbitrary and capricious.”
Sonnenshein said the SEC had not provided any indication of when it might approve a bitcoin ETF. Grayscale is among a dozen institutions in the race to launch btc spot ETFs, including fund management giants including BlackRock and Fidelity.
