Bitcoin Country seeks to generate world-class Bitcoin and Lightning engineers through a new program using the university system.
The El Salvador Bitcoin Office has announced a new six-month educational program titled “CUBO+” that aims to produce elite-level Bitcoin developers and enlightenment through the Salvadoran university system.
According to the Office, the program, which will begin in May, will consist of a relatively small group of students, under the age of 25, among some of the brightest students at El Salvador’s universities. The first group will be through students from Don Bosco University. They will compete for the inaugural Plan B Grant, funded by Tether and Fulgur Ventures. The project is the result of the recently announced agreement between El Salvador and Lugano, Switzerland, for the first bitcoin embassy in the Swiss city.
The program will be led and taught by some of the brightest minds in Bitcoin to be announced soon. Classes will cover topics ranging from Bitcoin-specific high-level technical development to distributed technologies like Holepunch, Nostr, and Web5. Private funding is responsible for the program, and all students who qualify for the Plan B Scholarship will receive a stipend so they can cover the costs of the course.
The first two months of the program will be online, followed by a two-week face-to-face bootcamp, with full-day intensive courses located in San Salvador. The remaining months will include close online mentoring with the biggest names in Bitcoin.
Information shared with Bitcoin Magazine outlined how the program will become a framework that others can use as an open source standard for high-level Bitcoin education. Education experts are participating in the design of the course which promises to set the standard for other nations to follow.
Students who complete the course will be presented with several options to continue their Bitcoin journey, including the option to take a full-time job at reputable Bitcoin companies. Otherwise, entrepreneurial opportunities and continuing education will be available.
The name Cubo+ derives from a project initiated by President Nayib Bukele in his position as Mayor of San Salvador. When he was mayor, the city put up buildings in impoverished areas, and these buildings served as libraries and community centers to promote education. The program hopes to take advantage of this inspiration to build the future of El Salvador.
