Starting with 10 meetings, BitGeneration seeks to provide Bitcoin training and education to Italian students.
BitPolitoA group of students from the Politecnico di Torino University looking to tackle Bitcoin training, research and development in Italy, has announced “BitGeneration”, a project that aims to bring Bitcoin education to Italian high schools.
According to the press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine, the university will host 10 meetings of three hours each for 30 third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students at a local high school.
“Experts and professors have already talked about Bitcoin in the past in some classes through small independent initiatives,” the statement describes, “but BitGeneration has a completely different tenor. For the first time, a public (Italian) school hosts Bitcoin training formally: the 30 hours are part of what is called Pcto (which in Italian means Pathways for Transversal Skills and Orientation), a course of 300 hours of work compulsory for a period of three years for all students throughout the country.
The lessons taught cover various aspects of Bitcoin, from financial inclusion, economics, and societal structures to computer science and game theory. There are also practical lessons that focus on showing the ease of using Bitcoin. Topics include “creating a seedphrase and wallet, downloading and managing a full node, timechain analysis, and mining (with a real Antminer S9 ASIC provided by BitPolito).”
The speakers involved in this initiative include some of the best-known names in the Italian Bitcoin sphere, such as Giacomo Zucco, Riccardo Giorgio Frega, Alekos Filini, Daniela Brozzoni, and Riccardo Masutti.
James Zucco, who gave the first lecture on January 31, said that “the professors were enthusiastic. When I was asked a few questions after the lecture, about a third of the students gathered to listen. I found bright faces despite the three hour conference.”
Nicholas Newfoundland, a member of the group and one of the main managers of the initiative, explained their expansion plans, saying: “We would like to expand the project in the future. In the next edition we will make a documentary that will tell the story of the education of the students, from the perspective of the students. We hope that other schools take the initiative as an example, we are ready to help”.
According to the press release, all 10 lessons will be published on BitPolito’s Youtube channel so anyone can view the course for free.
