Founded by Jack Mallers, Strike aims to make bitcoin accessible through its mobile app, which leverages the Lightning Network. Launching in the UK, Strike is now available in 100 countries around the world.
Jack Mallers said they are committed to increasing bitcoin adoption and providing their services globally despite regulatory complexities. “Our work is far from done,” he added.
To use Strike in the UK, users must pass a bitcoin “suitability assessment” questionnaire, which is mandatory under local regulations. The app also includes common risk warnings.
Strike offers several features for UK customers, including purchasing bitcoin with instant bank transfers, setting up recurring purchases, and self-custody withdrawals.
The app also uses the Lightning Network to enable free, unlimited, instant payments globally between Strike users, providing a frictionless cross-border transfer experience.
While Strike said some companies have abandoned the UK market, their expansion reflects a belief in bitcoin's potential. The UK presents opportunities as the world's sixth largest economy.
Strike continues to work to make bitcoin accessible to everyday users and businesses around the world. While region-specific regulations create obstacles, the company aims to comply with them while offering key functionalities.
