Apple is splitting its App Store division in half, According to a report by BloombergWhile one group of employees will be in charge of the App Store, the other will be responsible for managing its approach to alternative markets that have begun to open up in the European Union.
As part of the change, App Store VP Matt Fischer will be leaving the company after more than a decade in the role. “This has been on my mind for some time, and as we are also reorganizing the team to better manage new challenges and opportunities, now is the right time to pass the baton to two outstanding leaders on my team,” Fischer writes in an email to employees seen by Bloomberg.
Apple's senior director Carson Oliver will now reportedly oversee the App Store division, while Ann Thai, the company's chief product officer, will head the group that handles alternative distribution. App Store chief Phil Schiller will oversee both divisions. The edge I reached out to Apple for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
