Non-subscribers who open the Apple Music app on a new iPhone or iPad are often greeted with an offer for a free month of the service. The trial was originally three times that long, but Apple quietly shortened it in early 2022. But now, through Sept. 23, anyone new to Apple’s music streaming service can try it out for free for three months. The offer only applies to new subscribers; if you’ve never succumbed to the temptation of the Music app, now is as good a time as any to try it out. Just keep in mind that the service will automatically renew for $11 a month after the trial ends. Be sure to cancel if you don’t want to pay.
You can redeem three free months of Apple Music by heading to the Apple Music app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. The offer is only available to new subscribers.
Apple Music has a lot to offer. It's currently our top recommendation in our guide to the best music streaming services. We like its focus on recommendations, which combines a good amount of editorial playlists and stations with algorithmic suggestions. All songs are available in CD quality or higher, and lossless streaming doesn't cost extra.
For computer-curated music, there's a “Discovery Station” that helps you find new music by playing songs you've never heard before, both from artists you know and others the algorithm thinks you'll like. And in my experience, saying “Hey Siri, play something from Apple Music” yields a good mix of stuff I like that's novel enough to be interesting but not so familiar that I get tired of listening to it.
There are a few caveats to be aware of about the service: It's designed for Apple devices, though it's also available for Android devices. You won't find podcasts on Apple Music. And, aside from this offer, there's no free version of Apple Music. Pay the $11 monthly fee or listen elsewhere.
As for the offer, we reiterate that it's for new subscribers only; previous subscribers and even those who have had access to Apple Music through a family plan are not eligible. You must also sign up using the Apple Music app on an iPhone, Mac, or iPad running the latest software. An Apple ID is also required. You can read the full terms of the offer here. The deal here.
