As Google brings ai-overviews/”>artificial intelligence reviews for six new countriesIt's also changing the way generated summaries display citations. Instead of placing relevant web pages directly into the ai-generated summary, Google is adding a new visualization to the right of the answer that shows cited web pages more prominently.
This new format is rolling out today and will also appear on mobile devices when you select the site icons that appear in the top right corner of the ai Overview. “We’re using the space on the right side to prominently display links to the ai Overview so people can navigate to the content they’re interested in,” explains Hema Budaraju, Google’s senior director of product management for Search. The edgeGoogle will continue to show normal search results below the ai overview.
Google is also experimenting with embedding links into ai Overviews text. You can click on linked text to navigate to relevant websites, as well as browse web pages that Google will display in the new right-hand side screen. So far, Google says early tests have shown “positive” results that have helped drive “increased traffic to publisher sites.”
Other features Google is adding to ai overviews in Search Lab include the ability to save an ai overview, allowing you to view the summary again when you perform the same search. Google will also store saved ai overviews on your device. Interests page.

Asked what Google is doing to help prevent these types of responses from appearing in other countries and languages, Budaraju says the company has “rigorous evaluation processes and extensive adversarial testing in every market,” adding that “quality and safety are built into the design” of ai Overviews.
“I don’t know if there’s one way to do research and answer all the questions people have at scale around the world, but we’re committed to actively learning and listening,” Budaraju says.
