Tesla (NASDAQ:) supporter and shareholder Ross Gerber confirmed Friday during an audio conference with Bloomberg that the chief executive of investment firm Gerber Kawasaki will seek a seat on the electric vehicle company’s board of directors.
“Tesla needs to build its image around Tesla, and not just around Elon,” he said on the call, adding: “I think it’s time for Tesla to grow up.”
Gerber said he plans to be an activist board member, aiming to rein in CEO Elon Musk.
Gerber previously appeared in a , hosted by Investing.com, where he made his bullish case against Gordon Johnson. Gerber argued that EV adoption is growing dramatically, and with the US still lagging behind other markets, she sees many market and industry upsides. Since then, the heated debate has been viewed nearly 40,000 times.
Gerber’s firm owns about 440,000 Tesla shares as of December 31, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
TSLA shares fell 5.46% in afternoon trading on Friday.
