Charlotte, NC — Students from all over California Dunham School District (DSD) will return to classrooms this fall with new resources that enhance science education in their digital backpacks. Located in the rural dairylands of North Petaluma, DSD serves students in grades TK-6 and seeks to create an environment where every child is known, valued, and supported. The district's caring and dedicated staff creates enriching learning experiences that help students reach their full academic potential and master the skills and knowledge required by California's learning standards and curriculum frameworks. In addition, honesty, ethical behavior, integrity, cooperation, and responsibility are valued as all students develop the ability to work well with others and solve problems with ingenuity and creativity.
To support the district's ongoing efforts to provide all students with high-quality science instruction aligned to California State Learning Standards, the DSD team sought an innovative, updatable, digitally formatted blended science curriculum that would engage all students and easily integrate into teachers' classroom practice. Discovery Education Science technology BooksDiscovery Education’s Science Techbook series is a comprehensive, research-backed science solution for grades K-12. Used in classrooms across the United States, Science Techbooks drive engagement with exclusive phenomena and interactive content. Created specifically for California classrooms, California Science Techbooks are aligned to state standards and feature virtual and hands-on investigations, STEM activities, and instructional supports that enhance the delivery of impactful, blended instruction. Science Techbooks also include connections to standards and differentiation activities that inform instructional planning and guide three-dimensional learning. Available alongside Science Techbooks are coordinating teacher guides that offer unit, concept, and lesson overviews, and prepackaged kits that make it easy to implement classroom activities.
Recently, Discovery Education's Science Techbook was certified as compliance with the rigorous evidence-based standards of ESSA Tier III as set forth in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Multiple studies show that regular use of the Discovery Education Science Techbook in the classroom has many positive academic outcomes for educators and students in a variety of districts and populations across the United States.
