Siri will finally get better in spring 2025 when Apple makes its Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence system available to everyone via its iOS 18.4 update, according to BloombergMark Gurman in the last Switched on newsletter. That's more specific than Apple has been: So far, it has only said that ai features will be available next year.
Apple regularly rolls out new features in piecemeal updates across all of its operating systems. For example, Siri might gain the ability (via Apple Intelligence) to do things on your behalf, like find your ID in your library of 20,000 photos in Photos and copy your driver’s license number to enter into an online form, but ai-powered emoji generation or writing-assist features might not be ready yet. Gurman doesn’t talk about that directly, but it’s worth keeping in mind.
What comes first should become clearer as iOS 18 betas begin to roll out the features later this year and as the release of version 18.4 draws closer. In the meantime, features like ChatGPT integration, a new Siri interface that ditches the old pie chart for a pulsing rainbow around the inside of the display frame, and deeper product awareness that lets Siri give you basic tech support are expected to launch this fall.
In the future, Apple's ai plan apparently includes those AirPods with built-in cameras that pop up in rumors from time to time, such as last week's rumor. From supply chain analyst Ming-Chi KuoGurman says they would have infrared sensors and be used in conjunction with Vision Pro to detect gestures and hand movements. Gurman describes something similar to Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses: For example, ai could process images of them to describe things in your environment or help you orient yourself while walking. These new AirPods Pro, he writes, could be two generations away.
