The move, which includes the use of nfts, has led to ten employees resigning in one month, according to an interview with Arran Potter, founder of Grease Monkey Games. Despite the setbacks, Potter is optimistic about releasing Torque Drift 2, currently in beta, by the end of the year.
However, the loss of key team members has posed significant challenges.
Address challenges and misconceptions
Replacing outgoing staff has been difficult due to the competitive nature of the gaming industry, and Potter noted that larger studios are attracting talent with lucrative offers, making it difficult to hire new developers quickly.
“It's quite a challenge. There were some big studios that were just acquiring people for huge salaries, and that made it very difficult to find people,” Potter shared. Despite these challenges, the company has retained key partners, including automaker Nissan, for the web3 project.
Potter has also been addressing misconceptions about blockchain technology and nfts to both his team and the public, pointing out that nfts often have negative connotations, in part due to expensive digital collectibles like the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection.
“Digital ownership is something you hear and think is when you transfer your intellectual property and trademark to the owner of the nft and that's not the case at all,” he explained.
“If technology offers some benefits, then people will accept it and they need to understand the benefits,” he added.
