The Brazilian government hopes that Petrobras (New York Stock Exchange:PBR) willpower pay all its extraordinary dividendsbased on a revenue projection for this year, Reuters reported late Wednesday.
Petrobras (PBR) shareholders voted last month for the distribution of 50% of the extraordinary bonus dividends related to its 2023 results, highlighting that the remaining 50% would be held in a fund for future disbursements, which the government indicated could occur at the end of this year.
Brazilian Treasury Secretary Rogerio Ceron said at a news conference that the company's announcement “is enough for us to consider it a likely distribution scenario.”
The bimonthly income and expenditure report from the government's Planning and Finance ministries raised the estimate of dividend income for the year by 14.3 billion reais (~$2.78 billion), with 13 billion reais expected from Petrobras (PBR), it said. Ceron.
Petrobras' (PBR) additional dividend payment has been marked by back-and-forth decisions after the company's government-controlled board withheld full distribution in March, surprising markets.
