Less than 24 hours ago, former Mastercard NFT product leader Satvik Sethi announced his resignation, for controversial reasons. In a lengthy Twitter thread, the Web3 pundit claimed he had been “harassed”, “underpaid” and “disrespected” by the giant corporation. From losing his VISA to struggling to make ends meet and a new open-edition NFT installment, this is the story as he told it himself, and the reaction from the community:
Why did Satvik Sethi resign from Mastercard?
“I was a victim of harassment and emotional distress caused by a series of mismanaged processes, lack of communication, internal inefficiency. There were months in which I did not receive my salary until I begged through the hierarchy (Mastercard), among many other issues ”, Satvik Sethi wrote in a tweet.
This is just one of many examples that shocked the Web3 community. Sethi went on to explain that Mastercard gave him 3 months notice so he wouldn’t quit, which he didn’t.
Overall, the former NFT leader said he ended up with a 40% pay cut and a 200% increase in workload. As of this writing, Satvik Sethi claims that he is losing his London visa and must return to his home country of India.
The former Mastercard employee offered no evidence for his claims. The company had allegedly blocked his accounts after he threatened to expose its practices.
On February 2, Satvik Sethi released an NFT titled “NEW BEGINNINGS”. Surprisingly, the digital asset was, in fact, a letter explaining his resignation from Mastercard, where he was the NFT product lead.
What does Satvik Sathi’s NFT resignation look like?
Satvik Sethi began the letter on a positive note and thanked the Mastercard team for their support. Soon enough, however, things turned around when Sethi revealed that it has been “a real struggle” to stay afloat financially since he moved from New York to London due to visa issues.
Consequently, the single-income immigrant had been trying to discuss his salary with his employers several times without success. However, he ended the letter by being grateful and ready for new endeavors.
Here is the digital letter:
What is Satvik Sethi planning after leaving Mastercard?
For now, Satvik Sethi is asking for community support to coin his open edition NFT resignation letter for 0.023 ETH per piece. All proceeds “will go to survival,” he said. Also, Sethi promises to reward minters with airdrops in the future.
In the meantime, the Web3 expert plans to focus on his art and the Web3 joincircle social media platform. Right now, the site has over 90k logins, over 35 partner communities, and upcoming NFT collections.
Satvik Sethi’s Twitter thread received a lot of comments from the Web3 community. While many users were supportive of her, others seemed suspicious as well.
“This sounds weird from a Fortune 500 company,” replied user @soltsla.eth. “Then your desperate attempt to force a mint into the thread halfway put me off reading entirely. Good luck with your adventures, but I’d probably do the same to you if it was Mastercard.clearly another side of the story here.”
As of this writing, Satvik Sethi and Mastercard have not yet clarified the matter.
