Online marketplace giant Ebay is seeking to fill various positions in the area of Web3 and non-fungible token (NFT) technology, according to various Linkedin job postings. Ebay is seeking a “creative crypto lawyer” for the marketplace, Knownorigin, which it acquired in June 2022.
Big corporations still looking for workers to run blockchain and crypto services amid widespread layoffs
According to Ebay job postings posted on Linkedin, the e-commerce company is looking to fill various positions in the non-fungible token technology (NFT) and Web3 space. This follows Ebay’s acquisition of NFT marketplace Knownorigin and the company’s filing of trademark applications for various NFT and metaverse services in the same month. New job postings include positions like “crypto lawyer,” “community chief” for Knownorigin, and “marketing campaign executive” for Knoworigin.
So far, in the last 24 hours, 17 people have applied for the crypto lawyer position, 31 have applied for the community head position, and 37 have applied for the marketing position. The Crypto Lawyer role requires providing legal advice and support on NFT, blockchain and Web3 matters, as well as staying up to date on regulatory developments and coordinating with internal Ebay teams.
Knownorigin’s Marketing Campaigns Executive needs to build awareness and have a solid understanding of the Web3 landscape. This aligns with Ebay Chairman and CEO Jamie Iannone’s comments back in February 2022 regarding NFTs. “Ebay will be the place where people exchange goods, whether they are physical or digital,” Iannone said at the time. The Ebay job postings follow Amazon’s recent Linkedin job posting, which states that the online marketplace is specifically looking for a Senior Web3 GTM Specialist.
Approximately 41 applicants applied for the position of Amazon’s Web3 GTM Specialist, who would be “responsible for the growing adoption of Web3 workloads on AWS.” On February 2, the financial institution BNY Mellon named Caroline Butler as its new chief executive of digital assets. These job postings and positions show that despite widespread layoffs in the cryptocurrency industry, many major corporate entities are still looking for workers to run their cryptocurrency and blockchain services.
