Along with state-level educational partners, the nonprofit Michigan Virtual has released a sample ai/resource-bank/k12guidance/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>K-12 ai Guidance Document which specifically addresses educators' approach to using ai.
This ai guidance document was written specifically for use by K-12 educators, an area currently in need of such guidance. It focuses on data compliance impacts, ethical use requirements, and challenges around disclosure for educators.
The task force includes top leaders from 13 organizations, including the Michigan Education Association, Michigan School Boards Association, Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators, Michigan Secondary School Principals Association, Principals of Michigan Elementary and Secondary Schools, the Michigan Association of Computer Users in Learning and more.
“artificial intelligence is beginning to impact schools every day, often without clear guidelines or instructions, and it is critical that our educators are supported,” said Ken Dirkin, senior director of the Michigan Virtual Learning Research Institute. “We have partnered with educational leaders across the state to establish best practices and guidelines in the hopes that such standards will be taken into account when developing local policies around this new technology.”

Statewide, this is the first group to come together and establish an ai working group or focus on ai learning in schools, led by Michigan Virtual's newly created ai Lab.
