The 16GB Kindle Paperwhite with lock screen ads, normally priced at $150, has been marked down to $130 thanks to an amazon deal. It's not a record low, but it is the cheapest ereader since Black Friday. If you'd rather not see ads on your lock screen, the ad-free version is also $20 off, down to $150 from its regular price of $170.
The discount is for the latest version of the Kindle Paperwhite and applies to three color options: black, agave green, and denim. The Paperwhite is a nice size for easy reading and a comfortable fit in your hand, with a 6.8-inch screen. The backlight is adjustable and can be changed from bright white light to warm, amber light which is easier on the eyes. With a 300 ppi glare-free display, words should be crisp and clear on the screen, and easily readable even if you're sitting in the sun.
amazon says this Kindle Paperwhite model can last up to 10 weeks on a charge, although that will certainly depend on how much you use the device. It has a USB-C charging port. The Paperwhite is also suitable for swimming pools, with an IPX8 water resistance rating. Not only is it splash resistant, but it should also be able to withstand immersion in fresh water, within reasonable limits. amazon says it is protected for up to an hour in fresh water at a depth of up to 2 meters. However, it is a little different for seawater and is only rated to withstand a 3-minute immersion in 0.25 meters.
If you're more into audiobooks, the Kindle Paperwhite also supports that format and pairs with headphones or Bluetooth speakers. There are no built-in speakers or audio jack, so you'll need an external device to listen.
