Sonos will launch the follow-up to its Roam AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth wireless speaker in June, along with a new app specifically for its portable speakers. That is according to Bloombergis Mark Gurman, who write in your Switched on Newsletter today that the company has overhauled the hardware to fix Bluetooth issues with the speaker.
Gurman writes that the new app will also be compatible with the company's rumored $449 high-end headphones, which could also arrive in June. However, users will have to wait for the first-generation Move 1 and 2 and Roam to gain support, as the company has reportedly had trouble bringing the software up to par.
The original Roam is a solid speaker with a few quirks, such as not having stereo pairing over Bluetooth, which The edgeChris Welch shouted in his original review. As he wrote while covering the Sonos roadmap in November, some owners have also complained about the battery's long-term durability. The new Roam is expected to have top touch controls similar to those on the Era 100 and 300 speakers. On top of that, the company's plans also include a TV set-top box and updated versions of the Sub, Era 100 and Sonos soundbar Arc as it works to shore up its hardware revenue.
